Turnip Fries

Want a way to add some turnips into your life?  Cut them into wedges and wrap them in bacon! It is probably the only way I will eat a turnip.  I remember my Grandmother making some kind of turnip and carrot dish, I honestly couldn’t stand the smell of turnips.  I saw one at the store the other day and decided to give it a shot.  It wasn’t half-bad wrapped in bacon, maybe I just liked the bacon?  Anyway, these turned out pretty good!

Ingredients:

  • 1 turnip, peeled and cut into wedges
  • 6 strips of bacon cut in half
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. pre-heat oven to 350º
  2. line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper
  3. season wedges with salt and pepper and other spices if you desire
  4. wrap turnips wedges with a half of the bacon slice, place a toothpick through the bacon to make sure it stays on the turnip
  5. bake in oven until bacon is crispy and turnips are tender

    Looks good but I think you used rutabaga which is often called turnip in stores. Turnips are a bit milder and white. I always thought I hated turnips till I tried one. They are white with purple tops…http://s278.photobucket.com/user/birchie47/library/turnip%20vs%20rutabaga

      This was a turnip. I grew up with my grandma making turnips and carrots
